New leaves and old roots are what makes a tree magnificent.  New knowledge and old principles meld to become dharma.  If wisdom of the sages can blend with the new sciences, It would be for the benefit to humanity-

Today’s sign of the Apocalypse: NYC’s most extreme workout

Each and every one of you taking the precious time to read this morning have a unique talent of some sort or another.  If you feel the need to decree to the blog-o-sphere what that talent may be?  Please leave a comment at the end today.  YogaMom/Extreme Fitness Peep?  Is this your talent:

Give us a moment to center ourselves here and…Hmm, Hmm Ok…How about entertaining this thought for a second:  Dedicate yourself to right now, this very moment!  Painfully forget about whether or not you have “found your talent”…How about finding our lives!?!

Sadly in today’s culture, it is so very easy to think that being talented, popular, the mayor of your pilates studio on Four Square or 400 friends on Facebook is the ultimate end goal.  From the moment we awake in the morning we are conditioned to believe that our achievements are what makes us interesting, influential, and special.

You know what is important in your life?  What truly matters on a deep, heart-felt personal level…is up to each of us!!!

The Plan-

The Workout-

Cleverly pulled from our “Spring Medley” series…

There are Warm Ups and then there are Warm the Joints Up…Two entirely different sexy beasts!

Today we will perform both…Warm Up into a nice lather doing something you enjoy and then Warm Up the Joints:

5-4-3-2-1 Hammer Curls to a One Arm Perfect Press (Feet together, toes actively grabbing the earth beneath you, eyes look through the press!!!) followed by:

10 Perfect Push Ups

Quick question peeps?  When you walk are you not performing a plank?  And when you perform a One Arm Press?  Hmm…Why is it then when you do a plank it looks like hell?  Do you walk funny…So on that note how about a nice Plank Medley?

Focus more on form than time today and everyday for that matter…All Planks begin with a Hinge Walk Out!!!

High Plank, Low Plank (chin barely touching floor), Side Planks w/press (look through the weight), Fore Arm Plank…Stand up and with the heavy kettle bells (or any other heavy object – KIDS!!!) you neatly placed nearby earlier: Rack Hold Farmers Walk 40m Out and Back.

How many times through is up to you!  10+ would be something to brag about via a tweet…

Notes:

Patience, Form, Flow and Grace today dear reader.  Have fun and ENJOY!!!

  1. Love that plank workout!

To answer your question at the beginning of your post: I pride my self in being able to run the base path without loosing my breath after I hit a homerun in softball. And that’s all thanks to my half marathon training….and my training with my wife for her mil pt run test.

    • CultFit says:

Thanks! What ties this program together is the rack hold walk…Or a walking plank 😉
Part of me wants to think its the ice cold, adult beverage waiting for you back on the bench that serves as your motivation? All kidding aside: Training with a spouse is spot on and healthy in so many ways, good for you two!!!

  2. Good point and good reminder – how often does corporate America or our culture entice us to compete for things we never really wanted or needed? Having the most ‘friends’ doesn’t make you the most liked or most happy. Maybe being the happiest should be the goal regardless if anyone else notices.

Liked the plank series- I’m going to give that a try 🙂

  3. Alex says:

For the love of planks…I’ve started to do my planks by hinging and walking out, it makes such a difference. Reminds me of sun salutations in yoga…great for the body and the soul!

  4. Dr Ken Romeo says:

You are THE MASTER of great videos.

  5. Paula says:

I need a poster for my office wall of the CultFit Panda. 🙂

  6. urbanbeings says:

without blowing my own trumpet, i have a talent for making chocolate disappear. truely remarkable. if you ever have chocolate you want to go away, i’m your girl. not yet a sport, tho… love the workout, planks can be so varied!

    • CultFit says:

If we are talking about Cadbury eggs? Proper ones from England not the rubbish ones in ‘Merica! You may have met your match!

      • urbanbeings says:

oh, i think i would have to give the prize to you, the lush filling always slows me down. but, if we are talking plain chocolate…

        • CultFit says:

Waitrose truffles…I’d sell my soul for a few of those right now! Sorta off topic, went out for some ice cream with the family the other day and all I could think of was wanting some chocolate flake to put in it!?!
          What is your favorite chocolate?

          • urbanbeings says:

ice-cream is a topic all on its own, flake is a must? if you are going to have it, do it properly 😉 i am a simple girl, dark 70% choc is my favorite, but i will make do with whatever is going 😉 mmm, couple of cubes with a cup of tea… great to kick start an afternoon desk slump!

  7. Amanda says:

Love the opening quote – people are so afraid to see the beauty of blending the old with the new. Unless we’re talking dairy products, I say go for it.

  8. You say it all so well and make us laugh too! I guess I shouldn’t focus on FB today and pay more attention to my family? Is that really what you are saying? 😉 I will do planks in your honor today.

    • CultFit says:

I would never tell you what to do…wait for it: BUT, yes that’s what I’m sorta saying 🙂
Million different ways to go about the workout today with kettle bells, dumb bells, kids etc. Have fun and let us know how you did!

  9. notimetow8 says:

Bahahaha, that first GIF is EPIC!

    • CultFit says:

Thanks, it sure is! First time I was like…She totally looks the part and is going to nail this jump…and we know how it ended! Keep up your great work mate, it truly is inspiring to so many!!!

      • notimetow8 says:

I know right, I was like you and though she was going to nail it. Oh well, ya know at least she tried, which is more than can be said for the majority of people. Thanks so much for all of your support and encouragement. I appreciate it so much! I absolutely love your blog!

        All the best,
        Brett

I love this post and the good advice you offer. I love to exercise so I get it. 🙂

  11. Can I say my talent is I make a mean lasagna? 🙂

I think my true talent anymore is realizing you’ve got to let go sometimes. Just because you hold tighter and tighter to something doesn’t mean it’s going to make it easier.

  12. Trish says:

HAHAHAHA I loved the cat/shark video! My secret talent is that I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue.
