If people reach perfection they vanish, you know-
Many folks who wander around these parts consider themselves perfectionist and they also consider perfectionism to be one of their most valuable attribute (a close runner-up is their charming smile). As a perfectionist you are likely to obsess over bringing attention to detail: Your yoga mat and running shoes have to match your outfit. A keen eye on organization and following a well intended plan, as well as a clear sense of how all of the pieces of the “big picture” relate to each other.
It seems that having good intentions (wanting to excel no matter the discipline) and working hard would result in our meeting a desired outcome(s). However, as we well know, this doesn’t happen as often as we think it should. In fact, you might be frustrated by the fact that your perfectionism pays off in keeping your socks organized and your Prius meticulously clean but backfires horrendously during your adho mukha svanasana.
Why is this so?
Even more confusing and frustrating is when we use our perfectionism in one instance and it works great, but then we use the exact same strategy in another situation? It doesn’t work in the least. Quick example: Obsessing about making mistakes can make you detail-oriented and a key asset in your work place. Or obsessing about making mistakes can make you fail miserably during yoga class and during your next “big” event.
I decided not too long ago that I wanted to better understand when and under what circumstances perfectionism worked and when it backfired. Race preparation and event planning – A touch of perfectionism helps, a lot! Enjoying yoga class and a nice flowing trail run? Not so much. I’ve also seen people (myself included) literally kill themselves in the pursuit of the perfect mile, split time and perfect rep … Totally not worth it!
One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don’t clean it up too quickly-
Like a freshly packed snowball hitting you up-side the head, Christmas is finally here. Many blog-o-peeps would tell you that life is “grand” and “splendid” this time of year although out here in the “real” world … We struggle with stress, family and other worries that muddle our thoughts.
Seeking out solitude for a few peaceful minutes to think is a true blessing: A warm cup of tea before the little ones awaken, running your favorite trail tonight and taking a long nap while watching ‘A Christmas Story’ for the fifth time.
A few peaceful and thoughtful minutes …

Gratitude. Our CultFit family has some of the most dedicated and passionate peeps around and we truly can not thank you enough for your continued support. We sincerely wish all of you and your families a Merry Christmas! Be well friends and ENJOY!!!
The flaws of cyclic existence: Relatives at home, enemies, friends and possessions in the world are the causes of worry for the body and mind. Only virtuous actions can benefit others. Therefore, I will not be attached to these ties and I will cast them away as I would a snake in my lap.
… We can still live free, while living in our current high-tech society by taking the time to simplify our lives. How? Physical and Mental De-cluttering. It does take some time to realize that our material possessions do not bring us the happiness that simple immaterial experiences do … A kiss, A hug, a nice run. By getting rid of these unnecessary “things” we allow room for new “things” to come into our lives. Taking part in a regular “spring cleaning” can help us to live every day as if it was a fresh start.
No longer will you be held back by your past…
Trial Run and Hill Sprints to get the blood flowing … Followed By:

Later today we are going to have a good friend over for a chat and maybe some tea. The lovely Laura Yochelson will be over to talk about her new book ” In the name of BEING WELL, I made MYSELF SICK.”
Be well this morning and ENJOY!!!
… Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision
But today well lived makes
every yesterday a dream of happiness
And tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation of the dawn-
This post comes from the heart and we mean this sincerely: We cherish each and every reader that stops over for a visit. Our challenge to you over the next few days and heck, until January 2nd, 2013 is to embrace and intertwine the following thoughts into every fabric of your existence.
Thoughts for living an Authentic Day:
– Just for today, I will try to live through this day only – and not tackle my whole life’s problems at once.
– Just for today, I will be happy. This assumes that what Abraham Lincoln said is true: “Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Happiness is from within — it is not a matter of externals.
– Just for today, I will adjust myself to What Is and not try to adjust everything to my Own Desires. I will take my family, my work, and my luck as they come and fit myself to them.
– Just for today, I will take care of my body. I will exercise it, care for it, and nourish it and not abuse nor neglect it, so that it will be a perfect machine for my will.
– Just for today, I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer all day. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.
– Just for today, I will exercise my soul in three ways: 1- I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out. If anybody knows of it, it will not count. 2- I will do at least two things I don’t want to do, just for exercise of will-power. 3- I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt. They may be hurt, but today I will not show it.
– Just for today, I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress as becomingly as possible, talk low, act courteously, be generous with praise and criticize not one bit nor find fault with anything. I will try not to regulate nor improve anyone.
– Just for today, I will have a program. I will write down just what I expect to do every hour. I may not follow it exactly, but I’ll have it as a pattern to follow. It will save me from the two pests - HURRY and INDECISION.
– Just for today, I will have a quiet half-hour, all by myself to relax. In this half-hour, some time, I will think of a higher power, so as to get a little more perspective to my purpose in life.
– Just for today, I will be unafraid, more specifically: I will not be afraid to be happy, to enjoy what is beautiful, to love and to believe that those I love, love me.

Dust off the old Kettle-Bells and meet us out back …
The CultFit KB “Bear“
Double KB Dead Clean
Double KB Front Squat + Press
Double KB Shoulder Squat + Press
Double KB Stiff Leg Dead Lift + Bent Over Row
All of the movements above, combined together in one fluid movement equals One Rep … How does 10 reps sound?!?
Anyone and we mean anyone can learn to perform: Yoga, X-Fit, Boot Camp, Pilates, Kipping Stuff and anything else you can think of. <— This is not CultFit!
Are you familiar with the grey matter between your ears and that “thing” that beats wildly in your chest when confronted with a challenge? <— This is CultFit … ENJOY!!!
Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves – slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future; Live the actual moment. Only this moment is life-
What does it mean to be fully present?
For starters: Stop worrying about Thanksgiving and take care of your Body – Mind – Spirit in this present moment.
A few startling patterns will begin to come into focus for us this week. Chances are you are aware that the Thanksgiving Holiday is this coming Thursday here in good ole ‘Merica! Before we get off topic on another rant (and you can probably guess where this rant will go …) we want to talk about a taboo topic around these parts: DIET.
We quite literally just finished reading the 100th blog-o-post about working out and eating right this coming Thanksgiving. Seriously peeps … Dare we tread into troubled waters?
“Oh how nice, eat less, exercise more!?! Ground breaking stuff right there!“
This type of advice is nauseating and inadequate at best. Take a quick look around at the waistlines of the lovely peeps passing by? Something should become painfully clear: Different body types use calories in different ways. Each one of us are programmed and predisposed to carry more fat, more weight than others. No kidding hot-shot – Diet and exercise help … (<—Key Word). Although when all is said and done, the solution we seek is inevitably more complicated and complex than pushing away the plate and torturing yourself in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.
One day out of one year feasting with close family and friends will not hurt … We promise!!!
**Take a moment to re-read the quote at the top of the post again, we beg of you**
Let’s start with a nice refreshing Happy Hips Warm Up. Followed By:
150 Alternating Goblet Squats (flowing)
150 Hard Style KB Swings (snappy)
150 Perfect Push Ups (even power)
Slice ‘em and Dice ‘em as you see fit … 15×10 works pretty well?!?
Be fully present peeps, it’s all we ask … ENJOY!!!
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about.”
The one “thing” that keeps us writing is the friendships we have developed over the past year with you, our dear readers. All of us have different backgrounds, yet we also share a great deal in common.
Grown up chat time amongst close friends.
Many well-intentioned blog-o-sphere peeps common belief is that: If they buy the right book, find the right workout program, discover the proper weight-loss program, employ the right combination of body spray, dress in the latest seasonal Lululemon colors, eat organic fruit from Whole Foods … While also having the latest gadget, having the best yoga mat in class, chanting the best mantra, eating gluten-free, pressing the right pressure-points while foam rolling and breathing the proper way chomping on a veggie burger? Everything in their nettlesome lives will be perfect.
Here’s the truth between friends.
If you drink more than a liter of water a day, find nice shoes that fit, and go for a walk daily (even when it’s nasty outside), only THEN will all of our life’s mysteries and problems be solved.
We know you don’t want to hear this next series of thoughts, tough luck! We, YOU and the peeps behind you. Spend too much of our day, day dreaming and writing witty blog posts on why our lives seem so oddly out of balance. We want to make life better for those we love. We also want to improve the world we call home and give it the wisdom of what we have to offer. We want to know how to do “something” better and we look to those who will provide guidance.
Here’s the problem: We spend so much time giving advice to others that we simply forget about ourselves.
The advice we give only satisfies the recipients appetite for so long, then the hunger strikes again. Wanting better, fresher and smarter advice than the day before. A vicious cycle begins …
Do you truly want to know how to improve across all areas of your life? From doing the wash to performing a kipping pull up?
Bloom – Blossom – Flourish
Roll up your sleeves and get dirty …

Today’s program is likely the hardest one we have ever done. If you would like to know more about it please email us at:
You should eat a gluten-free, vegan diet and wash it down with some refreshing coconut water. Boot camps are for the weak at mind, X-Fit is where it’s at. Pilates is for soccer moms and Yoga is for, well … If you ever needed advice? You won’t find it here friends. Be well today and ENJOY!!!
She’s gone to heaven so I got to be good-
My body sucks. I exercise religiously, diet, binge, read all the mind numbing blogs and magazines. Yet I still feel inferior to others (Gals and Dudes are equally guilty).
“I just wish I could stop beating myself up all the time over petty, little things … That’s it I quit! “
Like it or not all of us React to adversity and troubling times when we should be Refocusing.
We could not possibly leave you in such a depressed state on a lovely Friday morning could we?!? What follows could be called advice, by some. Others may call our kind words unwarranted and self-righteous, either way we are all adults here and we can form our own decisions …
Are you a quitter? Do you find yourself tossing in the towel daily? Here’s the lowdown peeps: Quitters blame those around them and the world for their disappointments. YOU are not a quitter!
Less time Reacting and more time Refocusing.
Limber up with the program from yesterday … Followed by:
30 Minutes of the following:
10 KB Floor Presses (each arm)
1 Turkish Get Up (each arm)
10 KB Bent Over Rows (each arm)
Be sure to go back through this weeks posts and click on the images! Most of them are perfect for your desktop (Hi-Res). Be well this weekend and ENJOY!!!
