Compassion is for Chumps …

The most I can do for my friend is simply be his friend-

Those cheeky Buddhist!   Surprisingly, 2500-year-old Buddhist traditions contain some very basic and fundamental truths about our  own  human nature that we are slowly warming up to.   One of these traditions (the one we like to chat about the most) is that humans are inherently social beings!  Our brains are wired for building relationships, love, compassion and working together.  The individualistic,  look at me and my precious life and competition of our modern lives has led to an imbalance not only within ourselves but rather in everything we see around us.  As the Summer Olympics roll along we get a first hand look at the results of this:  Anxiety, Loneliness, Pain.

What’s the point of this post today?   Being compassionate to ourselves is pretty darn cool and not something you should avoid.  When you do finally accept compassion into your life?  We all become more accepting of others, period!!!

Now this may seem gauche and out-of-place today however seeing that many of our readers are firmly entrenched in the Elite/Warrior/Extreme/Insane/Kranked fitness craze of late?  Allow compassion to move you forward.  Uncle Mo (A true Man’s-Man) is not asking you this today … Rather screaming at the top of his lungs this message of compassion.  Compassion is the key to your fitness and healthy goals!  Try it and ENJOY!!!

  2. Are you into Buddhism? I read a few books years ago and feelings like anger and attachment to things and people almost easy to let go. They explain it in such a simply way and motivating. I love Vipassana meditation. I think of Star Wars when I think of these two things.

      Good question, I’m just trying to find the short answer for you. :)
      Yes I am into Buddhism. I really enjoy studying and learning more about it each and every day. A vast majority of my thoughts and actions come from my studies of Jainism and living a path of non-violence towards all living things (ourselves included). Never really shared this with anyone here …

    Love the opening quote! I told my husband from the very beginning that it’s important to me that we be friends – and even now, when we’re in disagreement, I’ll still lean over are remind him “You know, I am your friend here. I’m speaking from a place of friendship and love.” I think, in conflict, people will tend to treat a spouse or partner worse than they ever would a friend – they wouldn’t ever let an argument with a friend get as ugly as they would that of a lover. Keeping eyes on the friendship portion as an important part of our marriage seems to create a pretty compassionate environment in our house. Gave us a strong foundation.

    Being compassionate to myself was a major step in winning my battle with obesity. That was also the first step in realizing that if I practiced the universal law of reciprocation my life would forever change. It has. Thank you for another wonderful post!
